Old pix from last time, I didn't have my photographer with me. lol.
Dee might have gotten some pix of today. I'll have to check, We had a motive to assess Rain,...
HOWEVER
Miss Star Bright didn't want to walk down the pasture and go to the trees, she's been shying away from there since the cougar attacked little Sugar, Don't worry, Sugar is now almost healed up.
Normally, I mount on a log at the edge of the trees and we do trail work - stepping over logs, going slow under branches... jumping some logs. Squeezing between trees without ripping my leg off, or tearing up hers ... or poking one of our eyes out on random branches...
So today I'm trying to head to the trees and she's being stubborn and not moving. It looks like I'm pulling with all my might on the reins, when in actuality, I'm at the end of the line waiting for her to move forward. Pretty much clowning around with my horse standing there like a concrete statue.
She kept putting out the jake brakes and wasn't going to the trees today, or so she thought, once we were away from the group of horses, we did a little lead rope work....
for what ever reason, spending 5 minutes desensitizing her with a lead, distracts her fears and we can move forward. I do some touching, throwing it over her and then swing the lead making the wind noise for a few minutes. Like magic, her apprehension disappears and we walked on into the trees. ?
I'm sure from the distance, it looks like I'm hitting my horse with the lead rope. I'm throwing it over her butt, walking from side to side swinging it around. .. 'beating my horse' {hardly touching her}
I call her the most trained untrained horse ever. When she doesn't want to move, or do what you want... She's stubborn and it's a battle of will.
Finally she gives in and heads to the stump so I can mount up. Immediately she's ready to go and go and go.... Walking is not one of our paces when we haven't rode for a while. My horse loves to go for a ride.
Once I'm up, my little herd arrives and off we all go! My herd consists of my girls - Star Bright and Lil Star, The rescues : Rain, Piper and Blaze.
Dee and I are both convinced that Rain has been ridden and wants to ride. She remembers things... She stays beside me, turns with me at every corner, and whinny's a happy tune as we're running around.
She's mature, good sized. Look for the white mare with a dark spot on her face and little spots that look like rain on her body. She may possibly be Polaris' mom! She's really A beautiful horse!
Little Piper and Blaze are so ready for a person of their own. Piper is a pest and in my pocket when I'm there and Blaze behaves like she's jealous of Star Bright when we ride.
They are young mares that were born on the property. One on Mother's day the other on Father's day. Blazes mom is still there, she's also available. I'm not sure of Piper's. They are smaller possibly Welsh or other Pony breed. Sweet girls! They are Best friends and we'd like them adopted out together if possible.
It was a good day at the Barn today! I hope you enjoyed your day as well.
Blessed by God
